The government's policy on NEWater reflects the quality of being forward looking. The water treaties between Singapore and Malaysia ends in 2011 and 2061. The government aims to be less dependent on Malaysia, our closest neighbour. Singapore's Prime Minister, Mr Goh Chok Tong, says that when the 2011 treaty ends, we would not need to renew the contract for Malaysia to supply us with more water. Then, by 2061, we would be totally dependent on ourselves for Singapore's water supply.
These few plans show just how capable and forward-looking our government is.Being forward-looking is to plan ahead to meet the needs of the people. Water is the most basic neccessity of the people and by developing our own reliable water supply, the government has shown that its true goal is to appease the citzens and look after their needs. In the situation that Malaysia decides to cut off our water supply in any unforseen circumstances, we would not have to face the danger of going without water for days.

"We are grateful to Malaysia for supplying us water all these years, and in the years to come. However, I see our diminishing reliance on Johor water in a positive light. It will take the sensitive issue of water out of the equation of bilateral relations. Singapore and Malaysia can then focus on mutually beneficial cooperation. Together, we can be a formidable force in economic competition against others, and in addressing other common challenges," Mr Goh added. Mr Goh realise the consequences of announcing the government's plans to the public. He knows that by doing so, Malaysia will feel offended and maybe, threatened. Therefore he tries to ease the situation by ensuring the public in his statement that the purpose of the government's actions were not to cut bilateral relations between Singapore and Malaysia, but to focus on the areas of enconomical growth and building stronger ties between the two countries to be carried on by the future generation of leaders. PM Goh knows the importance of co-operation between the two countries. That is why he is trying so hard not to break the bonds between the two countries.

durin pe muz run for seven mins around the field...came in third lor. Think i deproved le,muz be the cny food. After that was free time...went to play soccer...Gort zam by ming-wei again,same as last week.made a couple of great saves..but the goal that i conceded shud not go in de lor,cost us the match. challenged Elu n gang to Captain ball...sori ar eloise..made her fall a couple of times.HahaaXx...edmond was damn farni lor..he say"wo you li4 le!!"then he threw the ball to the field lor..every1 was laughin lor
